Haily South (1995) (she/her)

is a self-taught, community-made artist, painting ethereal portraits of nymphs, humans, flowers & fae in oil paint. Born & raised in the desert mountains of Orem, Utah, she recently relocated to Upstate New York, amidst it’s lush forests, ponds, & delightful geese!

Her work is influenced by the pre-raphaelites, art nouveau, fashion editorial photography, cottagecore daydreams, fairytales & myth, self-help books, rad thoughtful humans, & nature- always nature.

Haily’s art-making practice is fueled by introspection, curiosity, & a dedication to keep learning & growing. She sees painting each day as an act of optimistic rebellion - a triumph over nihilism & fear.

She has been pursuing art full-time for 8 years now, since age 20 (in 2016). Since then, South has exhibited all throughout galleries & museums in Utah, as well as in San Francisco, Denver, & New York. In 2019 she was the artist in residence at Sundance’s Mountain Resort, & the same year she was commissioned by Downtown Provo to create The Empress Mural in her iconic style. In 2022 she received an Award of Excellence at the Portrait Society of America’s Utah & Colorado Chapter Show.

And now, at the age of 28, after having participated in 50+ gallery & pop-up art shows throughout her career, in 2024 she’s shifting her focus back to the “indie painter” side of things, here online. Picking back up & putting a fresh twist on her project from January 2020-2021, ✨Inspire A Painting🖌️ where she paints people from her online community, using their photo submissions.

Haily is currently working on ✨IAP🖌️, & misc personal projects. She creates daily out of her cozy home studio in Rochester, New York, where she lives alongside her best friend & partner of 8 years: Dallas, (a rad human & self-taught software developer, who also works at home!) & their sweet brilliant pup: Link.
